Hi everyone. Have'nt posted anything in a while, its been so hot here in Texas it kinda drains your energy. I have lately been exploring a function in Photoshop, the Posterize button. I usually take a photo I'm about to use for a painting and load it in Photoshop and just try different adjustments to see if anything clicks my creativity. Here's a recent commission I did before any trickery.
Cute girl. Somewhere in my travels I tried the posterize function with this result.
I'm not sure if it really comes across on your computer screen but this function seems to kind of divide the shadows, halftones and lights into a more noticeable grouping. Also the color divisions become easier to see. Many portraits I view seem to suffer from lack of enough imagination in color. In cool north light the shadows would be warm, the halftones cool, the lights warm and the highlights cool again. This seems to be what this function in Photoshop is doing. Give it a try. Hey, if Rembrandt were alive today he would be a computer geek. Next post I'll try and post the finished portrait.
